Holter Monitor
What is a Holter Monitor?
A Holter monitor is a small, portable device that records your child’s heart activity continuously for 24 hours while they go about their normal daily routine. The test is painless and helps our cardiologists understand how your child’s heart behaves during everyday activities, play, and sleep.
What to Expect During the Procedure
Attaching the Monitor
-
We place 7 small stickers (electrodes) on your child’s chest.
-
Wires connect the stickers to the monitor.
-
The device is secured with special tape and worn in a belt or pouch.
Daily Activities
-
Your child can continue with most regular activities while wearing the monitor.
-
Important: Swimming, bathing, or showering is not allowed, as water can damage the device and wires.
-
At night, your child will sleep with the monitor and may place the unit on their night table.
Returning the Monitor
-
After 24 hours, the monitor must be returned to the clinic.
-
Our pediatric cardiologists will analyze the recording and provide a detailed report to your child’s referring physician.
