What is an Electrocardiogram (ECG)?

The electrocardiogram or ECG is a quick and painless procedure. The electrocardiogram is a recording of the electricity around your child’s heart that the ECG machine prints out on special paper.

Procedure:

We will use 10 small stickers and attach them to your child’s chest, arms, and legs and will attach one clip and wire to each sticker. The ECG itself is very quick and painless and the most challenging part is to have your child lie still.  We understand this sometimes may be difficult but you’re welcome to distract them with their favourite toy,  your cell phone, or any other techniques you feel would be helpful.   

Once we have a nice tracing of the heart’s electrical activity, it will be printed for one of our Cardiologists to review.
